5A
The link for Blackboard, which teachers are using this year, is http://bb.stjohnlincoln.org/webapps/portal/frameset.jsp. You will then need to enter your child's user name and password.
Welcome to the 2006-07 school year. I am looking forward to a great year. To help things go smoothly I would like to share some procedures that are followed in 5A.
Classroom Rules
Respect yourself, others, and property
Contribute to the learning environment
Follow classroom procedures
If a student chooses not to follow the rules:
Warning
Time out in 4th grade room
Call parents
As the teacher I reserve the right to skip steps when necessary.
Each student has a calendar on his or her desk. These will be used for individual reinforcement. A + is earned if a student does more than is expected of them. If the rules are not being followed a mark will be put on the calendar. If a certain number of marks is received during any given day, week, or total length time the calendar is used the student will not take part in the class reward. The length of time the calendar is used will grow during the year.
Grading and Assignments
All assignments are due next day unless otherwise stated by the teacher. If the assignment is not turned in before Mass it will be counted late. One point is lost for each day the assignment is late. The number of questions on the assignment determines points. After 2 days late the assignment receives a 0%, however the work still needs to be completed. No talking or looking at other's papers is allowed during tests and quizzes. If this happens a 0% will be given.
Agendas
Agendas are taken home everyday. Please check your child's agenda for assignments and sign it after they have completed their work. If a student's agenda is not signed they will lose 10 minutes of recess for that day.
Spelling
New words will be given each Monday. They are located in the spelling workbook. If the student wants to start studying prior to Monday they may. We will follow the lessons in order. The tests will be given on Friday.
State Projects
Each student will study his or her own state. This project will be done over several weeks with the majority of the work being done at home. Detailed outlines will be sent home as we begin each part of the project. The grade received is based on what work the student chooses to do. A note will come home when this project begins.
Reading Rainbows
During the 1st and 2nd quarters and the second half of the year each student will be given a reading rainbow. The first two are due at the end of the quarter they are handed out in. The third one is due at the end of the year. Each rainbow includes different genres of books and different authors. They will be part of the reading grade. The grading scale and expectations are listed on each rainbow.
Guest Speakers
I would love to have guest speakers come to our classroom during the year. I you or someone you know would be interested in doing this please let me know.
Thank you for all of the wonderful ways you contribute to the school. If you have any questions feel free to contact me at school. May God bless you!
