St. John's School Computer Network and Internet Acceptable Use Policy

St. John the Apostle School actively pursues making advanced technology and increased access to learning opportunities available to students and staff.  Internet access is available at St. John the Apostle School to allow students and staff to access and use information sources from international computers and to communicate and share information with others.

In accordance with St. John the Apostle School's mission statement "to assist parents in their responsibility to help children grow spirituality and academically", students will be held accountable for computer usage.  Accessing information or using the computers in any way counter to the St. John's mission statement (such as accessing or providing materials to sites which include information on drug use, pornography, bigotry, hate, violence, or other criminal behavior) is not allowed.  Students doing research on controversial issues should always receive permission from their teacher before using the Internet sites.

Students are not allowed to alter computer settings or add software  to hard drives without express permission from a faculty or staff member.  Unauthorized access of computer logins, directories, and software (hacking) is prohibited.  Students are to respect the privacy of others by accessing only their own documents.

It is the user's responsibility when downloading programs to check for copyright or licensing agreements and to pay for any copyrighted software.  Software should only be used in accordance with the license agreement.

Students are not to waste or take supplies, such as paper, printer ribbons or cartridges, toner and diskettes provided by St. John the Apostle School.  Students should print only one copy of their work on the printers.  If additional copies are needed, they should be photocopied.

Any violation of Internet or computer usage will result in immediate suspension of Internet privileges.  Students will be responsible for payment of damages to computer hardware or software.  Other sanctions could include: detention, denied access to St. John the Apostle computers, parental conference, or other disciplinary action as deemed by the St. John the Apostle Administration.
