20072008groomsphoto Meet Mrs. Grooms

WELCOME! The following information will help you get to know me better.

I have been at St. John's for 10 years, plus one year substituting for Mrs. Platte.

EXPERIENCE--After watching children in my home when my own were small, I taught preschool for 13 years. Next I was a para-educator and substitute teacher for LPS. Finally, I came to St. John's in January of 1998 to finish the year teaching the 6th grade class. After another year in 6th grade, I moved to the second grade for 3 years, 2/3 combined class, and the 4th grade. Two years ago I started teaching kindergarten with Mrs. Rynearson as a partner. I am looking forward to a fantastic year with your children!

PERSONAL HISTORY--My childhood home is Dakota City , Nebraska where I grew up the oldest of 6 children. My parents still live in that same home! My dad is a carpenter and my mother is a stay at home mom. I attended Wayne State College and UNL. I also have worked in geriatric care, wood refinishing, production packaging, and cake decorating. My hobbies and group activities include flower gardening, Red Hat, Extension Club, and collecting depression glass.

MY FAMILY-- Lincoln has been my home since 1975. My husband Dale, our son Tyler and I used to live in the Bethany area. Tyler is a junior at SCC.  Our son Cory and his wife live west of Lincoln and are the proud parents of our first and only grandson. Our son Collan lives Los Angeles where he is a physical trainer. He is a graduate from Chiropractic school.

MY PHILOSPHY--Kindergarten is practice--we are learning many things for the first time and will be doing them over and over. We are not trying to get it perfect, we are training our brains, our hands, and our eyes. Kindergartners are already alert and observant, eager, and full of wonder. Let's open the world to them!

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME--I used to clog (I used to do a lot of things). I play the accordion. I like foods other people think are weird. As a kid I spent a lot of time playing backyard baseball (no, not the video game), and climbing trees. I'd rather fix the lawn mower than clean house. I LOVE teaching!

Please feel free to contact me at any time through school email or via telephone. I will be looking forward to meeting each and every one of you!
