Beginning of Year Information for Pre-Kindergarten
Welcome to St. John’s Preschool!
We are going to have a wonderful year of exploring our environment; making new friends and learning about God’s love for us. Each day will include: creative playtime, art, Jesus time, music, snack, outside play on our NEW playground, and lots of opportunities to practice sharing and using our words to solve a problem.
Things to know for the beginning of year:
TUITION
Tuition is due the first of each month. Tuition is $75 for the 2 day class and $90 for the 3 day class. Please hand the check (made out to St. John’s Preschool) to me or send it with your child in an envelope in the backpack. It is helpful if you email me and let me know that it is in the backpack. If you get paid on the 15th and would prefer to pay tuition then, please let me know. We do not send a bill, but the office will send a reminder after the 15th.
NEWSLETTER
A newsletter will be available for each month, telling about the activities of each day. It will include finger plays, songs and poems that we are learning. It will be available on our website before each new month starts. The website, www.stjohnslincoln.com/sj/prekhome.html, will get you directly to the preschool page.
SUPPLIES
Your child will need a backpack to bring home the projects and information that is sent home. Please put the child’s name on the back pack. I am requesting that each family pay $10 for supplies. You may add this to the first month’s tuition.
FIELD TRIPS
We will take two field trips this year. For these trips we will take the school bus for a charge of $1 per person. We will combine the morning and afternoon classes and all go together. Our first field trip will be in October to the Pumpkin Patch. Parents and siblings are very welcome to come. Each person riding the bus will need to have a permission slip filled out.
SHOW AND TELL
The children take turns being the leader and as leader will be bringing home the show and tell bag. When your child brings home the bag, he/she may bring a favorite item to share with the class.
SNACKS
I will assign one day each month for each child to bring a snack. The list will be on the website. Please keep it simple; teddy grahams, cheese and crackers, apples, carrots and dip are some suggestions. Popsicles and ice cream bars are a hit, especially when it is hot. We do have a refrigerator and freezer for our use. You do not need to send juice unless it is a special occasion. I have cold water which is good for us.
DRESS CODE
There is no dress code for preschool; we do go outside unless it is raining or extremely cold, so please dress accordingly. I recommend wearing tennis shoes as most of the play area has sand that is difficult to play in wearing sandals.
EARLY DISMISSAL
On the third Friday of each month, St. John’s dismisses at 1:30 pm for a staff meeting. To accommodate this early dismissal, we will combine the morning and afternoon classes and both classes will come from 9 – 11:30. If there is a noon dismissals, the morning and afternoon classes will come from 9 – noon.
BOOK ORDERS
Each month I will send home a book order. The books are very reasonably priced and make great gifts. There are always a few books that are $.95. If you wish to order, please send it back by the due date and send either cash or a check made out to me. I order in online and use a credit card. If you want it to be a gift, write the word GIFT at the top and I will make sure your child does not see it.
BIRTHDAYS
When it is your child’s birthday, I will assign the snack day as close as possible to the actual birthdate and you may send a special treat. Birthday cookies are a big hit and not quite as messy as cake. If your child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate his half birthday.
QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. The best way to reach me is by email at sue-waldren@cdolinc.net. I check my email often and can usually get back to you quickly. I am at school by 7:30 am and usually leave between 4:00 – 4:30. You can call me at school between 7:30 and 8:45 or from 3:30 – 4:00. I have to go to the office to receive calls so it takes a few minutes for me to get there.
If your child will not be in school, please call the school office and tell Diane or Lisa and they will get the message to me.
