Wedding Information

Weddings

Getting started:

First the wedding couple needs to contact the wedding coordinator, Eileen Perkins, to check for date availability. Either the bride or groom needs to be a member of St. John's parish. Then the couple needs to get permission from the parish pastor to be married at St. John's. Once the pastor has granted permission, the wedding couple and the wedding coordinator can meet to go over the "Guidelines for Weddings at St. John's." This takes about one hour and the meeting is at St. John's Church.

LENTEN REGULATIONS: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. All Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence. Fasting means eating only one full meal with two smaller meals, which together do not equal the full meal. No snacks or eating between meals allowed. Fasting obliges all Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59. Abstinence means eating no meat, and no soup or gravy made from meat. Abstinence obliges all Catholics over the age of 14. Sickness, hard manual labor, pregnancy, etc. automatically excuse a person from these obligations. Nevertheless, it should be pointed out that these are serious obligations. In cases of doubt or questions, the priest who hears a person’s confession should be consulted.

A Brief History of our Parish

History of St. John's Parish

On the Feast of St. John the Apostle, December 27th, 1958, Bishop James Casey decreed the formation of St. John the Apostle Church in northeast Lincoln.

Our Patron - St. John the Apostle

St. John

Known as the "beloved Apostle," Saint John, along with his brother Saint James were personally called by Jesus to become fishers of men. This had been his avocation before Our Lord touched his life on the shores of Galilee where he had been born, the son of Zebedee and Salome as chapter 4 of Matthew and 1 of Mark relate.
