First the wedding couple needs to contact the wedding coordinator, Eileen Perkins, to check for date availability. Either the bride or groom needs to be a member of St. John's parish. Then the couple needs to get permission from the parish pastor to be married at St. John's. Once the pastor has granted permission, the wedding couple and the wedding coordinator can meet to go over the "Guidelines for Weddings at St. John's." This takes about one hour and the meeting is at St. John's Church.
The couple also must attend an Engaged Encounter Weekend. More information about the weekend can be found on the diocese website. Marriage Preparation classes with the priest need to begin at least six months before the wedding date.
Setting a Date and Time:
Weddings are normally celebrated on Friday or Saturday. Friday weddings can start at 5:00pm, 5:30pm, 6:00pm, 6:30pm or 7:00pm. Saturday weddings can start at 1:00pm, 1:30pm, 6:00pm or later. If there is a 6:00pm or later wedding on a Saturday, we have to be out of the church from 3:00pm until 5:00pm due to confessions at 3:00pm and Mass at 4:00pm. There are no weddings on First Fridays or during the season of Lent.
